Rolfing (Dr. Ida Rolf Method of Structural Integration):

I want you to stop fighting gravity. Together we can reverse the process of your bodies “structural aging”. As we get older, we don’t have to feel like it and our bodies don’t have to look like it. Modern medicine offers little when it comes to solutions for chronic pain - Rolfing has proven successful at taking on that challenge.

Rolfing, or Structural Integration, was developed in the 1950s by Dr. Ida P. Rolf during her search for solutions to family health problems. She was a scholar and early holistic thinker who investigated the effect of body structure on function. Her technique, primarily designed to relieve painful conditions, improved general functioning as well as psychological well-being. Though Ida is long gone, her work lives on through the organization of 10,000 practicing worldwide. The goal of the every Rolfing session is to vastly improve one specific aspect of body function. For instance, the first session frees up breathing and increases vital capacity. Getting more oxygen into our lungs helps every cell in the body, so that is why the series starts here. It is not uncommon to experience significant and lasting improvements from just one session, but Rolfing is a cumulative process. Completing Rolfing Ten Series of Structural Integration is an experience like no other. This is not a marketing gimmick or round number, it is simply the number of sessions it takes to organize the body in gravity while rejuvenating all musculoskeletal tissues. The end result is forgetting the aches, pains and issues that brought you in in the first place.

The Rolfing series of 10 sessions works a different part of the body in every session, with some overarching themes. The first three sessions work the superficial fascia - freeing the sleeve from the core.  The second group of three sessions works the core - the big muscle groups in the midline, front and back respectively. Work on the head and neck is done every session, but the 7th session consists entirely of head and neck work. TMJ (temperomandibular joint conditions) are addressed here. Sessions 8 and 9 return to the shoulder and pelvic girdles once again respectively after conducting a test to determine which order. Session 10 involves minor adjustments and functional movement.

Testimonials

“Vincent is skilled, professional, and takes the time to listen. After just one session, I feel lighter and am standing with a straighter back. I look forward to completing the 10 sessions. The location is convenient and the studio space is awesome. I highly recommend him.” - Patricia K.

“I just completed the ten session Rolfing series with Vincent and I'm glad that I gave myself this gift. Not only have some little nagging aches and pains vanished, but i'm certain I've gained height. I feel like my dancer self from my 20's. I’m 52. People have been commenting on 'how great I look' and I think it's my stature! Vincent has a comfortable yet commanding air about him that at once makes you feel you are in good hands.” -Mikaela J.

“I am so happy I did a 10 series with Vincent. The series significantly improved my health. Vincent is remarkably professional and supportive. I have felt at odds with my body, disappointed. With very little effort on my part, this Rolfing series with Vincent somehow reconnected me with my body. Physically, a couple of weeks after finishing my 10 series I was scheduled for my annual biometric health screening at work, and somehow, I am an inch taller than I have ever been, and 10 pounds thinner. I've always wanted to be taller and thinner, mission accomplished.” -Carlee C.

Vincent B. Martin, B.A.

Vincent B. Martin, Certified Advanced Rolfer™

Vincent grew up in Buffalo NY, then moved to the West Coast to attend Portland State University for Business and UCLA for Screenwriting. In 2009, compounding health problems involving gut issues and musculoskeletal pain brought on the need for major and long term remediation of diet and other factors. Seeking therapy for TMJ problems he discovered the term Rolfing. Bodywork proved to be invaluable for him during a year of studying medical literature in search of solutions to his maladies. His interest was sparked to learn more about the human body and manual therapy. Leaving his career in documentary film to go on a healing crusade, ultimately a successful one, he began training at Dr. Ida Rolf Institute. Drawn to Hawaii’s therapeutic properties, he also trained as a massage therapist at the Pacific Center for Awareness and Bodywork on Kauai. Having discovered his passion for manual therapy but seeking additional mentors, he completed the Advanced Rolfing Certification at Dr. Ida Rolf Institute in Boulder in 2013, and Advanced Rolfing Certification at the Guild for Structural Integration on Kauai, HI in 2014.

He was fortunate to train with many early students of Dr. Ida P Rolf through his travels and has filmed and catalogued many symposia and workshops for the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute. In 2017, with camera in tow, he travelled in Europe for 5 weeks to meet and interview Rolfers from Sweden to Hungary and many in between. In 2019 he co-taught a Phase III of the basic Rolfing training at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute.

Vincent chose to become a Rolfer because he believes in the unique effectiveness of the therapy to heal body and mind. Not a healer, but rather healing guide, he relies upon his training and experience to help each client achieve their maximum potential. When not Rolfing or attending trainings, Vincent enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and photography. He resides in New York with his wife and son.
